Apple HomeKit technology is at the heart of a new challenger into the smart lock systems arena. UK-based window and door hardware specialist Mighton Products Ltd will launch Mighton Avia, the first Apple HomeKit-enabled smart lock to work with multipoint locks, at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES), which takes place in Las Vegas in January 2019. With more than 182,000 visitors CES is the World’s leading showcase for the latest in electronics and will be used for the worldwide launch of this important first for the Cambridge firm.
Multipoint locking systems are used widely throughout Europe and the United Kingdom with growing markets in India and China, with US door manufactures also widely adopting the system that offers significantly better security than the deadlocks used on most US doors.
Mighton Avia revolutionises entrance door security: the multipoint lock is secured simply by raising the handle and unlocked using the app installed on an Apple iPhone or iPad; by using a highly secure key fob from a range of up to 30 metres, or via an electronic keypad. A further, exciting innovation that will be available later in 2019 is face recognition, activated via an optional accessory. Conventional keys therefore become a thing of the past with access for additional users easily extended and controlled. Avia may also be controlled via the app from anywhere in the world, for example to allow easy access for service providers.
The Apple HomeKit platform is highly secure and stable and users of the Avia app can learn at a glance the status of the lock, with a full audit trail recorded for all activity. A traditional key may be used in the TS 007 3 star cylinder as an emergency backup to offer total peace of mind. Any competent person may install Avia in minutes on existing multipoint-equipped doors.

Mighton Avia smart locks and accessories will be widely available for pre-order from May 2019 via the Apple website, Amazon and direct via the Avia site at www.aviasmart.com. Professional and commercial customers will be served in the USA, Canada and South America through Roto Frank of America, based in Chester, CT; and through Mila Hardware in the United Kingdom. UK-based Mighton Products has been supplying safety and security hardware products since 1983. The company has won a number of awards for its Angel Ventlock child safety product that prevents falls from windows.
